I have been seriously playing fighting games since sf4 and I openly choose to play with modern controls in sf6. For me it eases the execution requirements and lets me focus on fundamentals over said execution. It's not like I don't know how to use motion controls. My main has been Bison since sf6 so I'm all about charge motions. However back then and even now, when faced with a quick decisive moments my body just sometimes doesn't match my brain. I see someone jumping at me while I'm playing Ed "oh DP motion" (fireball comes out) *gets kicked in the face for a full combo. I try to zone out someone as Luke "time to shoot sand blast" (Rising upper comes out) throws a perfectly advantageous game out the window. Losing and throwing a fight because of mistakes like this and misinputs just isn't fun for me anymore. It's extremely frustrating and I don't want to dedicate hours of time in training mode like I used to. I'm 34, I'm over that shit. I want to sit down and play a fun ass street fighter game where I can go toe to toe with my opponent with good fundamentals and decision making. Modern controls allows me to do that. I'll gladly take the 20% damage reduction for this play style. if they ever get rid of Classic controls in sf that would be blasphemy of the highest order however I hope Modern controls are also here to stay.

Modern fighting game characters aren’t built in such a way that they don’t “function”, and they all have a “Powerful Thing” they like to do. As such, what makes a top tier character in all modern fighters isn’t having a powerful thing, or even how powerful it is exactly, but instead how often, and easily they can force the opponent to navigate their powerful thing.

bedman has all of these things and he's considered low-tier. maybe it's because of his minor flaws or the fact that a lot of his moves are niche usage and his conversion can only really shine when errors are stocked but. hm, i agree with the general concept of the video but i'm not sure this is a definite explanation for what's top tier

Funny how tekken 8 has the EXACT same thing is special controls but more over powered as it can be toggled but NO ONE ive seen bets an eye but modern controls has so much outrage. I myself use modern controls to learn what my main, ken, is able to do. Modern controls only helps me do inputs and combos a normal player could alr do. I still HAVE to do footsies, guess in mix ups, fish punishes, bring pressure etc. modern doesnt change my playstyle if i were to use classic. In fact id say it helped me play classic better. Modern is like riding a bike with training wheels. In the end, i will develop to riding a bike properly and in this case, use classic controls

When will Gekko realize how bad Zato-1 is?? Man I try to play this game but half of the roster hard counters me, other half is simply annoying. I have absolutely no defense and alright it is a downside but my so-called busted offense gets countered by one unbaited burst, YRC or even DP and I'm fucked cuz my precious Eddie is dead and winning neutral against char with neutral-skipping moves is fucking disgusting (I'm looking at you, Sol Badguy). Zato needs SOMETHING. Like sure strenghening his defense goes against his char design but for fucks sake let me play neutral, let me have normals that don't lose ALL the clashes, LET EDDIE LIVE
